The members feed us so much and I love it so much! We got fed almost everyday this week. I finally found out that Sis. Barbie and Bro. Gerald consider me a son so that was a huge bright spot in my week! Elder Kartchner worked some more magic in our bathroom when we had a leak so that was nice. So we got our funds for this next month this week and Elder Tuiaki had a bunch of trouble. The ATM we were using zeroed out his account without giving us any money so we tried another ATM and he still had zero but I was able to withdraw. Elder Dankers(one of our office elders) Was able to figure it out with the bank and everything so he was able to withdraw today so that was nice. We played good basketball with some non-members the other day and it was super fun! The sisters had another baptism this week and Elder Tuiaki baptized him. The Spirit was really strong in the meeting. Then, at church, I was asked to confirm him. One of the other men in the ward ended up doing it which was kind of a relief for me. We also got asked to say the sacrament prayers in Ilokano and those prayers are hard enough in Tagalog but again, other men did it. All 4 of us bore our testimonies as well. That dinner after breaking our fast tasted so good! Today, Sis. Barbie and Bro. Gerald treated us and a bunch of other missionaries to Golden Plate which is an all you can eat, cook your own food kind of place. Fast Sunday was probably the biggest spiritual boost with some of the things that were shared this week. That's all for this week!
I've been reading the book Saints recently and it is so interesting to me how sometimes when I'm reading, a passage from the Doctrine and Covenants will come up and it will be exactly what I personally needed at the moment. God really speaks to any way He can if you only let Him! I would recommend that book for those who are interested in it.
Last week's email:
Monday: Sister Gibbon went to Bacarra to be with her new companion, Sister Cheney, while we went to Laoag with Sister Barriga so she could go home. We went to the mission office so we could say bye to all the missionaries going home this week which was super fun because they gave me a look at kind of what it will be like in 2 years when I go home. They were so sad to leave the Philippines and us missionaries lucky enough to still be here but so excited to see their family again! I look forward to that day but I'll keep enjoying everyday I have here(even if the language is still rough for me this early in my mission). I got the package from Aunt Karin and Uncle Ricky and I really enjoyed that in the Christmas card, it never said how old Ricky is. It just says the oldest one. That made me laugh so hard! Thank you for the package!
Tuesday: We walked around the sister's area today and talked to people there since there are no sisters here right now. That's about it for Tuesday.
Thursday: Earthquake! It wasn't bad where I was. Just minor shaking, that was barely noticeable. The new sisters (Sister Mailo and Sister Autufuga) came today so we showed them some of their area. Sister Mailo is from Australia and is Samoan and fresh from the MTC and Sister Autufuga is from Samoa and will be going home in 3 more transfers. They are so great and Sister Mailo talks a lot. She is a very social person which is great!
Friday: We showed the sisters around their area again and talked to the people in their area that were scheduled to be baptized this week but we had to push them all back a week.
\
Sunday: We got a call from the branch presidency in the morning asking us to speak in sacrament meeting. The speakers had forgotten so, as always, the missionaries are the back-up. So, the branch got to hear from all 4 missionaries since the sisters were going to speak anyway since they are new to the area. It all went well though! We had lunch with some members and then sent back to the church to wait for a meeting we were asked to be at. We studied while we waited and played the piano. The meeting didn't end up happening but we were able to talk with some members and got invited to come with them to a ministering appointment. We went and no one was home. So then we had dinner with Sister Barbie and Brother Gerald and she told us her conversion story. Her testimony is so strong and we love their family so much! They treat us like family! Earlier, we were able to talk to Barriga through a member and found out that she is not coming back but she got honorably released so we're glad she can be there for her family!
I hope you all laugh at my emails as much as I do when I write them. I constantly am laughing with people here and I love it. This morning we went on a hike with the YSA so that's what most of the pictures are in the email. As you can see from the pictures, Sister Mailo has quite the attitude. I look forward to this next cycle to see what our district can help the Lord and His children with! I love you all!
