Flying into the Future

That's a weird thought, huh? Well, for those who don't know, I will be flying to the Philippines on Monday to spend a week in the Manila MTC. It is so exciting but a little intimidating. I'm on my way to a foreign country to speak a language that I don't know yet but I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that He will help me to spread His word. So to explain the subject, I'm leaving on Monday and I am getting to the Philippines on Wednesday. They are 15 hours ahead of me in Utah. I know that in the uncertainty of the world, there is peace in Christ. Thanks for all you who have helped to make my stay in the Provo MTC so great!

Friday: We woke up at 4 in the morning to get our laundry done early and so we could get computers to email. The people with their P-Day on Thursday had their P-Day moved to Friday so they didn't have it on Thanksgiving so the laundry room was getting really busy by the time we left after we had finished our laundry and emailing. I was definitely tired but I also was glad to have that all done before the big rush and we could focus on other things. We had our first Skype TRC which was interesting because we went to T3 but didn't find out until 30 minutes after we were supposed to be there that it was in T2. So we were super late to that. It went well though.

Saturday: We had classes in the morning and while we were teaching, our teachers were like, no English at all. We were super freaked out but we did well enough. Brother Dustin just got back from California so he was kind of falling asleep in class which was kind of funny to see. It was an interesting day but not much happened.

Sunday: If I haven't told you already, every Sunday we all are supposed to write talks because we don't know who is going to be called to speak and it is supposed to be in all Tagalog. While I was preparing, I was thinking, I am going to be called today. It was about pagbabayad-sala (The Atonement) so I wasn't really worried. Elder Allen and I passed the sacrament and when we went to ours seats I just leaned done and picked up my talk and the Branch President said I would be speaking and I was like, yeah, I knew it. It went well. Elder Jones and I went to choir and Brother Eggett was awesome as usual. President and Sister Martino were our speakers for our Devotional and I never realized how fast she speaks. They spoke about family history work and their son who has been helping them so much from the other side. I definitely felt my Great Grandma with me while they were talking about that. I know she has been helping with work on both sides of the veil since she passed away. We watch the Restoration as our Sunday film which has always been super powerful to me. Afterward, Elder Marlette gave me a note. It had some touching things on it and we had a good talk from that.

Monday: Brother Ivins taught us today and he explained some grammar things that have kind of been confusing me. He is a really good teacher. Sister Lundskog taught our second class and she told us a bunch of stories about the Philippines and the people. That was super useful since we'll be leaving soon.

Tuesday: I played basketball really well today. That may not be relevant to you but I really enjoy it when I am able to play well. We tried to teach the third lesson in one minute which is easier than you think it would be to do. At least it is in English. We watched a video from the District and I was watching it just thinking about all of the missed opportunities in their lesson. They didn't teach the people they taught the lesson which is what I have been taught not to do. It kind of disappointed me. Elder Jones and I went to choir and it was kind of sad because they kept talking about stuff they're doing next week but we won't be there next week. Elder and Sister Clayton came for our devotional and it was good. Elder Marlette and I had another talk tonight and he gave me advise that has confused me every time I get it because I get it so often and that is to stay close to my mission president and to obey his rules. I don't feel like I really struggle with that but people keep telling me to do that and it makes me feel like I'm some rebellious missionary. I don't really know why that is the piece of advise that everyone wants to give me.

Wednesday: I played basketball really well again today. I found out that Devin Fish is in my building and came in today! It's always fun to see my friends in the MTC. We taught Sister Aquino again today just to see if we could answer questions well in Tagalog. It went pretty well. We were able to be a part of the first workshops for the new missionaries to help them start thinking about how to teach. We did the introductions for the interested people. We then went to class and had a relaxed class which was super nice. We talked about how we should cherish every moment we have as missionaries and being able to wear Christ's name on our chest so everyone can see and not just have it etched on our hearts. We read Mosiah 5 in all Tagalog and I realized how much I understand. That was a good boost. I always seem to understand languages better than I speak them.

Thursday: We had haircuts scheduled for this morning but we were so busy that we completely missed them. I again played basketball well today. We had a workshop today to help us work with the members and Feletoa was part of the little skit that they put on for it and chin-checked himself twice. We had class with Sister Aquino but she had to leave a bit early so Brother Ivins came in as well. It was super sad because this is the last time we will see Sister Aquino since she is going back to California. She shared her testimony with us which was super powerful and told us we were her favorite district. This is especially touching because we are her last district so I was happy to be a part of the best and last. We then had class with Sister Lundskog and it was a fun class. We almost couldn't finish because some of our class was having another laughing fit.

That's all for this week! Next time you hear from me will be from the Philippines! Know that I love you all!

New Companion!

This is Elder Saberdo. He's my new companion here in Ballesteros. He's great! Now that you know him, I can get to my week. A lot happened but mostly we just visited the members this week so that they could meet Elder Saberdo. We also met this Nanay on Saturday night and just kind of invited her to church. The member we were working with that day waited until after our conversation to tell us that she is crazy. On Sunday, she came to church and started asking people for money and apparently, later after we left, she started calling people devils and went hysterical so one of the members called the police. So that was super fun. But, on another note, my companion has a super strong testimony so our lessons have been going great! I'm excited for this next week! I hope you all had and will have a great week! I love you all and I know that God has a plan for you! He will help you through anything you have a problem with if you just pray to Him!

Transfers!

Guess what?! I'm getting transferred! I know I sound happy about it but I have mixed feelings. I know it is where I am meant to go, I'm excited, but I also know I will miss Pasuquin and the people that make it great. It feels like I am going to be leaving my home all over again. We good though! I think this experience will truly be for my good! Also, I can brag that I out lived 5 sisters in Pasuquin! So this week, we had our interviews with President Peterson and I realized while we were there that I feel so comfortable talking with them so I was happy to find that out about myself. It was a good interview.  We also had another great lesson with someone Elder Dagulo and I found last week so that was awesome! Sisters Autufuga and Mariano are going home and I am going to Cagayan! I'm going specifically to an area called Ballesteros. I am not only transferring but also becoming the senior companion! That is super crazy for me. Elder Dagulo is going to have Elder Peterson (a ...

Happy Father's Day!

So Happy Father's Day to all those fathers and future fathers out there. Also, Happy Birthday Kenzie! This week has been a lot better so thank you for all the prayers that you may have sent my way! We had some great experiences this week but the highlight for this week was for sure Friday and Saturday. Friday, we had the baptismal interview for Maricel and she, obviously, passed so that was super cool then we went to another appointment with the Ulibas family. This is just a sweet Nanay and her son that have been super welcoming to us. That is actually where that picture with the Buko(coconut) came from. We taught them Lesson 1 and the spirit was so strong. It was one of those lessons where I was speaking words in Tagalog that I didn't know but I just threw them out because they felt right and it ended up being the right sentence structure and the right words so even my companion was surprised afterwards by how much Tagalog I spoke. But the lesson went great and they received ...
