Roasted! Week 2

Happy Birthday Mom!

On Saturday, we have classes in the morning which was kind of nice. During class, we found out we would go to the TRC on Monday. TRC's are pretty much teaching a return missionary who is speaking only the language. It was kind of intimidating until we met the people and then it was less so. They know that we don't know the language so they help you out as much as they can including speaking Spanish sometimes to help with a word. The first guy we taught spoke most of the time so we didn't have much of our lesson that we used. The second guy was really quiet so we taught our entire lesson and still ended up leaving early. It wasn't the worst thing though. That meant we were able to have a one on one with Sister Aquino on what we could improve.

I don't know what it is about Saturday nights but I had another really spiritual conversation with Elders Lewis and Anderson from my district. We were talking about our testimonies and Joseph Smith and other cool things. It was super cool!  Sunday was fast Sunday and we had to teach the lesson in priesthood. It went well. We did a mural pondering exercise which was pretty good. We looked at the mural of Paul on the road to Damascus. It was pretty cool. When we got back my entire room left it up to me whether or not we were going to choir so I prayed about it. I got the answer, "Go to choir!" That was all I needed It was pretty good. The choir was packed which kind of surprised me because it was fast Sunday. We had a mission conference or something like that and it was fine. Then we had a Devotional by Elder Carpenter. It was a pretty good Devotional. Afterward, we watched a film they were playing by Elder Bednar called How to Recognize the Spirit. It was super good and it really showed the funny side of Elder Bednar. I would highly recommend it.

On Tuesday, we started the day off with some flashcards. That was pretty fun and encouraging. We had choir and Brother Eggette showed us a picture of him with this girl and it was a sister missionary's sister. It was pretty cool! He then talked about how God looks out for each of us personally to help us out. I realized that was kind of like my experience with Dad last week. I also realized that experience was like the verses in Alma 17:1-4 where Alma runs into his brothers in the gospel "by coincidence." Brother Eggette also talked about a story with Elder Christofferson and people leaving the church. He was saying that if we start using the real name of the church and calling it the Savior's church people will start realizing exactly what they are walking away from. It was really interesting to think about.

The Ochoas spoke at the Tuesday Devotional. Sister Ochoa's talk was pretty good but the one that I felt more was Elder Ochoa's talk. We watched the video about Jesus calming the storm and he talked about how maybe Jesus was just waiting for them to come to him. It was really interesting imagery. In the version we watched, Jesus's voice wasn't a shout but a still small voice to calm the storm around them which of course I related to the Holy Ghost. He ended his talk with the video of Peter walking on the water. He then got up after the video and said, "I didn't feel the spirit as well as I wanted to." He then talked to us about how he was impressed upon by the spirit to stand up again and talk to us about talking to our companions that night then to pray to know what Jesus did for us. It was really powerful! Elder Allen and I, after we did our district review, had a heart to heart that I believe brought us even closer.

At service on Wednesday we were given the inside of the toilets and we made some sick beats on the toilet seats with the brushes. I also met a teacher that taught with Jessica at a workshop that was on Technology. We had a bit of a heart to heart with our teachers later and expressed our frustrations with the language and having all of this put on us so quick. We then had a more relaxed lesson after that about how to recognize the spirit which was so nice.

Thursday was an okay day. We didn't do much except class and a flashcard game with Peterson and Wilson which was really fun! Today we went to to temple and did sealings, which was my first time. It was pretty cool and as I was going back to the changing rooms I saw Kristen Beckstead! It was so cool! We also went to the dry cleaning place to pick up Elder Allen's suit and I also saw Misha! That was just so much fun to be able to see a bunch of people I know today! That's about it for this week!

Love you all!

(Editor's note: We saw Steve crossing the street from the Provo Temple to the MTC last week!)

New Companion!

This is Elder Saberdo. He's my new companion here in Ballesteros. He's great! Now that you know him, I can get to my week. A lot happened but mostly we just visited the members this week so that they could meet Elder Saberdo. We also met this Nanay on Saturday night and just kind of invited her to church. The member we were working with that day waited until after our conversation to tell us that she is crazy. On Sunday, she came to church and started asking people for money and apparently, later after we left, she started calling people devils and went hysterical so one of the members called the police. So that was super fun. But, on another note, my companion has a super strong testimony so our lessons have been going great! I'm excited for this next week! I hope you all had and will have a great week! I love you all and I know that God has a plan for you! He will help you through anything you have a problem with if you just pray to Him!

Transfers!

Guess what?! I'm getting transferred! I know I sound happy about it but I have mixed feelings. I know it is where I am meant to go, I'm excited, but I also know I will miss Pasuquin and the people that make it great. It feels like I am going to be leaving my home all over again. We good though! I think this experience will truly be for my good! Also, I can brag that I out lived 5 sisters in Pasuquin! So this week, we had our interviews with President Peterson and I realized while we were there that I feel so comfortable talking with them so I was happy to find that out about myself. It was a good interview.  We also had another great lesson with someone Elder Dagulo and I found last week so that was awesome! Sisters Autufuga and Mariano are going home and I am going to Cagayan! I'm going specifically to an area called Ballesteros. I am not only transferring but also becoming the senior companion! That is super crazy for me. Elder Dagulo is going to have Elder Peterson (a ...

Happy Father's Day!

So Happy Father's Day to all those fathers and future fathers out there. Also, Happy Birthday Kenzie! This week has been a lot better so thank you for all the prayers that you may have sent my way! We had some great experiences this week but the highlight for this week was for sure Friday and Saturday. Friday, we had the baptismal interview for Maricel and she, obviously, passed so that was super cool then we went to another appointment with the Ulibas family. This is just a sweet Nanay and her son that have been super welcoming to us. That is actually where that picture with the Buko(coconut) came from. We taught them Lesson 1 and the spirit was so strong. It was one of those lessons where I was speaking words in Tagalog that I didn't know but I just threw them out because they felt right and it ended up being the right sentence structure and the right words so even my companion was surprised afterwards by how much Tagalog I spoke. But the lesson went great and they received ...
